Silent Night

by Jamin Jamin © 2023

In the stillness of the night, a fire's soft and gentle glow,
The only lights to guide the way, the Christmas tree's mesmerizing show.
Stockings hanging by the hearth, presents beneath the tree's branches,
But the little boy, in solitude, ponders while Christmas silhouettes begin their little dances

Not guessing what he'll receive, nor noting what all the packages might weigh,
His thoughts instead of merely tangible things are honed in on the joys of Christmas Day
For only once on a calendar this magic he knows will appear,
He sneaks in late at night, alone with the promise of the coming cheer

Amidst the tree's shimmering lights, a calmness fills his searching heart,
A moment of solitude, before loved ones' fellowship imparts.
He wonders if that starry night, so long ago and far,
Was filled with such serenity before the world knew
Bethlehem's shining star.

That silent night, before the joy, the hush before the birth,
When Jesus came into the world, bringing hope and peace on Earth.
Before the angels sang their song to shepherds in the field,
A heavenly display of light, their voices unrevealed.

Oh, what must it have been like to hear those wondrous words,
"Emmanuel, Savior, Wonderful Counselor," like the sweetest song ever heard
As the little boy gazes at the presents, his eyes well up with tears
He imagines the greatest gift of all, it's Jesus his heart holds dear

Christmas is a time of joy, of love and family celebration,
And as the little boy watches the lights, he holds this truth with hopeful anticipation
For amidst the festive bliss and gifts beneath the tree,
He knows the greatest gift of all is Jesus, the one who sets all men free.

As the little boy sits in awe, his heart begins to soar,
He feels the presence of such love, like he's never known before.
The warmth of God's light surrounds him, His love so strong and pure,
He cherishes these moments, for it's in these very ones that Christmas will endure

He wondered about that night, so long ago and so far away,
When Mary and Joseph found no room in the inn and to a lowly manger the Shepards came
In a humble stable, amidst the animals was born a baby king
And just like now once in a year the veil of heaven opens and angels sing

The little boy imagines the angels voices breaking through the night sky,
Their voices filled with jubilee, as they proclaimed from up on high,
"Hosanna, Peace on Earth," their heavenly chorus rang,
Goodwill towards all men, their melodies loudly sang..

He envisions the three wisemen, with wonder in their eyes,
Guided by the star, they hasten to the savior they've been looking for their whole lives
To kneel before the baby, that the prophesies foretold
Did they know they were giving gifts to the greatest gift man would ever know..

In his imagination, the little boy sees each package wrapped with care
His eyes ponder Every bow and every decoration and knows of the love that put them there
He understands that Christmas is not just about the surface of what he sees
And time will know the moments of the love of Christ Jesus around that family tree

So as the little boy gazes lost in all the twinkling lights,
He feels a sense of awe, a warmth in his heart that ignites.
For in this quiet moment, he knows down deep in his soul,
That Christmas is a celebration of love, a living story that will never grow old

And as the fire crackles and the tree's lights softly glow,
The little boy's mind drifts to peaceful sleep, while outside, a light Christmas Eve snow
A child lays to rest so near the Christmas tree
Would his family understand the depths of this peaceful Christmas scene

For Christmas is a time to cherish, and a time to celebrate and rejoice,
To embrace the love of family, and to find that "still small voice"
And as the little boy rests where he lies, eyes closed Peacefully oh so tight
What gifts will you choose to treasure this sacred Silent Night
