The tears of my future

In the middle of the night my son screamed to me
and recounted a dream that he dreamed to me
The light of truth in his eyes brightly beamed to me
as he described the way he'd been redeemed to me

He had a trail of tears that led to me
as he pulled out a Bible and he read to me
"Dad, the devil's not dead, but he's dead to me
for I heard God's Word and what he said to me..."

"I live, I'll kill, I died for you...I live, I'll kill, I died for you..."
"I live, I'll kill, I died for you...and now I have my kingdom set aside for you"

As Christ holds me, I held my child
A vision in the night had spelled my child
and I wondered what it was that compelled my child
to be leery of the world before it felled my child

A premonition sent to warn my child
that we all must die to be reborn, my child
To chase away every day that we mourn, my child
Know to you Christ's love is sworn, my child...

God killed the demons that were haunting me
parading me around and flaunting me
and as God lifted me up, others were taunting me
but the Lord never gave up on wanting me

He wants you, my child...he wants to know you're near
to keep you close, to catch your tear
To ease your trouble, to calm your fear
and to remember the reason that you're here

God sometimes calls us at our darkest times
when the demons ring their bells and their darkest chimes
and we're well in the midst of our darkest crimes
and it's from these nights I write my darkest rhymes

Since then God's broken the ties that bind me
and gave me sight when the devil tried to blind me
I warn you now, Satan, you can try and come and find me
but I've got an army of angels standing right behind me
