Mary Magdalene, A Second Chance

by Lanette Kissel

It seems that public opinion has turned against me.
I have had time to contemplate
The way I have lived my life, mistakes I have made
My offenses are far too great.

The people no longer trust me.
They are all too willing to attest
That an evil spirit lives within me,
And that I must be demon possessed.

Then a man named Jesus came to our village
And He took notice of me.
He spoke but one single command,
And from my demons I was set free.

I looked up at this mysterious Man,
As tears of relief I did cry.
He gently helped me to my feet,
And He actually looked me in the eye.

Usually in my encounters with men,
I was made to feel nothing but shame.
They looked at me as if they had done nothing wrong,
And that I was the one to blame.

But He did not look at me with contempt or disgust.
His eyes were caring and forgiving.
He told me He had given me a second chance,
To change this life I had been living.
