Christmas into Santa

by Joy Wieters

We've turned Christmas into Santa,
And angels into elves
Fellowship and Christmas cheer are
Reindeer and singing bells.

The Manger is now old-fashioned,
Celebration is now old.
"We need to open presents, NOW!
We mustn't let them mold!"

The tree on which my Savior died.
Is now a place for pretty.
How can we see our Savior's star,
With lights crowding the city?

Humble, loving presents are now
Stuffed full of want and greed.
Will all this make us so happy,
On this our Christmas Eve?

God's birthday we should celebrate,
Infectious Joy to spread.
Light as a feather, we should be,
Not like a brick of lead.

Lead does not celebrate well,
Nor does a sour heart.
The miracle of God with men
Should other hearts jump-start.

So make the most of Christmas day,
A miracle of Joy.
Peace on earth, goodwill to men,
A blessed baby Boy.
