If I Don't Stop

by Joy Wieters

My arms seethe
I can't breathe
May seem foolish,
But I can do this.
I can try.
I may not 'fly'.
But I'll make it,
If I'm patient.
I fall back,
Rope not slack.
I hang there
In midair.
I grope back,
Strength I lack.
Though I'll do it,
It'll take a bit.
I heave my weight,
I take the bait:
All that's in me
Wants ME to see -
That I can win.
Through thick and thin,
I will not fail,
Though oft I flail.
I pray, I grope,
I grab the rope.
I'm hanging there
In midair.
In just a moment I'll be at the top.
If I don't stop.
