The Shadow Girl

by Joy Wieters

They say she's got 2 sides to her
A shadow girl and yet hyper.
She may hang back with the younger crowd,
But with the older teens she's rarely loud.
Those who know her know she's cool
But when she's young she learned the rules.
Writes poetry to tell them all
She's breathing new and she won't fall.
"Responsible" She shows adults,
"I am, though I may have my faults."
And so they take her seriously
Only a few know what she needs.
Only God to be right there.
Only help when she is scared.
Only friends to with her laugh,
And to help her let go of past.
She thinks of others oftentime,
But when she's not - resorts to rhyme.
Loves a good spring night to quench,
Her thirstiness for the quiet bench.
All alone she thinks so hard
Of events that left her scarred.
But also how her God has been
There with her through all of them.
So from out of the shadows -
She's got know thing to loose, she knows -
She steps and what will happen next?
But when it's hard on Hope she'll rest.
The shadow girl, not quick to peep.
But she knows "Still Water Runs Deep."
