New Jerusalem

by Sandra Graham © 2006

Like as a dazzling jewel, descending from on high
I watched the New Jerusalem fill up the Eastern sky.

Oh, such wondrous beauty, the half can scarce be told;
The holy, promised city, prepared with streets of gold.

With reverent fear and trembling, I dared to look inside;
Past awesome, towering gates of pearl, forever opened wide.

From God's own throne, my eyes beheld a river broadly flowing;
Where on its banks, the Tree of Life perpetually was growing.

No Sun, no moon, no stars loomed anywhere in sight;
For Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, is its eternal Light!

Now only those whose hearts are pure, may ever enter in
Within its walls, where goodness dwells, there is no curse of sin.
