Scarred For Life

by Deborah Smith Plemmons © 2018

"He or She is scarred for life;"
We have all heard this before.
We know many are hurting:
Outward, inward, less, or more.

Sometimes we're scarred from a cut,
A fire, or an accident.
These surface wounds, though they heal,
Remind us of that event.

There are deeper hurts we face;
Those that wound, internally:
Divorce, deaths, wars, or abuse
Leave scars that others can't see.

Our transgressions wounded Christ;
His love for us, He'll not hide.
He bears the scars in His hands,
His feet, and His pierced side.

If we trust Christ with our lives,
No greater care will we find.
His sweet-smelling sacrifice
Heals scars of the heart and mind.
