Psalm 1

by Bettina Van Vaerenbergh

Blessed are they who do not hearken to ungodly counsel;
Blessed are they who do not walk in the sinner's way.
Blessed are they who refuse to sit in the seat of scorners;
Whose mind instead dwells upon God's Word night and day.

Blessed are they who delight in the Lord, and in His Word;
They will be like trees planted on the banks of the river…
Their branches will bear an abundance of fruit in due season,
And in the heat of summer their leaves will not whither.

Whatsoever they do is blessed by God, and they prosper;
Not so the wicked - like chaff, the winds carry them away.
Sinners will not stand in the assembly of the righteous -
The ungodly won't stand come that great Judgment Day.

Sinners will perish in their own wicked ways, there's no doubt;
But the footsteps of the righteous God orders aright…
Blessed are they who do not follow after worldly counsel;
How happy are they who make the Law of God their delight!
