Independence Day

by Kristine Stanton © 2023

We come to celebrate this day
for freedoms we possess.
Among them are life, liberty—
pursuit of happiness.

We hold these truths—self-evident,
endowed by the good Lord—
equality for one and all—
our freedom was restored.

And now with flags and fireworks,
on Independence Day,
we celebrate this special time
in good 'ole USA.
