The Shadow Of Death

by Mark Spencer © 2013

My time is nearly over,
The end is drawing near.
Eternal sleep is coming,
So why then do I fear?

I'm not afraid of ending,
I am ready to go.
But something doesn't feel right,
And why, I just don't know.

I see the shadows moving,
Though maybe it's just me.
But I can't shake this feeling,
There's something I can't see.

Could it be that I've been wrong
About Heaven and Hell?
Something's in the room with me!
What is that rotting smell??

No! This can't be happening!
These demons can't exist!
The room is growing darker,
Why does that smell persist??

Death is just moments away,
My body's letting go.
I see the darkness breathing,
With burning eyes aglow!

They're standing all around me,
Waiting for me to die!!!
Oh God! Oh God! I'm sorry!
Why will you not reply??

My heart has ceased its beating,
The Air Won't Fill My Lungs!!
GOD PLEASE, THEY'RE COMING FOR ME!!!
WITH CLAWS AND SLASHING TONGUES!!!

I'M SORRY FOR HATING YOU!!!
HOW COULD I HAVE KNOWN???
PLEASE GIVE ME ANOTHER CHANCE!!!
DON'T LEAVE ME HERE ALONE!!!

GOD! THEY'RE TEARING AT MY SOUL!!!
AND I CAN'T STAND THE STRAIN!!!
DON'T LET THEM DRAG ME UNDER!!!
MY GOD! MY GOD! … THE PAINNNN!!!
