The Gift of Laughter

by Dave Mudford © 2020

There is a man that is looking for a laugh,
to cover fears, he's afraid to telegraph;
Hiding shadows by disguising in a joke,
doesn't he realize inside he is just broke.

Laughter can help heal the deepest wound,
though it can drive closeness underground;
Hiding feelings by concealing in a front,
no value; all that remains is just my stunt.

Tall stories can be the greatest fun,
yarns delight as they are deftly spun;
Hiding truth by exaggerating all our lines,
causing real damage to hearts, if we miss the signs.

There is a man looking for an escape,
funny sayings attempting to reshape;
Hiding shyness by the image he portrays,
he is seeking to find comfort in their praise.

Laughter given as a gift by our Lord,
it should never be abused or ignored;
Hiding safely by the joy of life displayed,
from His calling may we not be ever swayed.

Note: Joy of life mentioned above is found in God Himself. God is the most joyous being in the universe! What a delight to spend eternity with such a fun loving, joyous God; the creator of laughter and humor!

Proverbs 17:22 A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Psalm 126:2 Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them,"
