“Who is My family?”

by Bettina Van Vaerenbergh

Jesus asked His disciples a question one day:
"Who is My family, what do you say?"
No one answered, an awkward silence fell;
Because they knew the family of Jesus well…

They'd known His father, they knew His mother;
They knew His sisters, and His four brothers.
Why did their rabbi ask such a strange question?
The answer was obvious, it didn't need reflection!

Jesus beheld His disciples, all twelve of them,
And they were dumbfounded by what He said then:
"My family isn't defined by blood, no, but rather" -
"By always doing the will of My Heavenly Father."

"Blessed are those people who hear My Word",
"And bring into practice what they have heard."
"Blessed are they, who obey God readily";
"They are My sisters and brothers, My true family."
