On faith and feelings…

Sometimes our hearts burn within us
And sometimes they do not…
Sometimes we feel further away —
And sometimes we feel closer to God.

Sometimes we say happy prayers
And sometimes our prayers are a sigh…
Sometimes His Word fills us with joy
And sometimes our quiet time feels 'dry'.

Sometimes we feel like a rose in bloom
And sometimes we feel desert-like…
Sometimes believing comes easy to us;
Sometimes faith is like a strenuous hike.

Sometimes we may feel safe, and saved,
And sometimes we may not…
Sometimes we can feel the love of God
And sometimes we feel the rod.

Sometimes worship gives us tingles
And sometimes we feel kind of 'numb'…
So measuring our faith by our feelings —
Well, wouldn't that be kind of dumb?
