Left on His Own

by Kristine Stanton © 2023

A little boy left on his own
had wandered day and night
searching for a bite to eat
to quench his appetite.

His stomach growled—he needed rest—
a place to lay his head.
He had no home in which to go—
he did not have a bed.

And as he roamed the streets each day
he witnessed passersby.
While some would offer food and drink
some others just walked by.

Until one day a man approached
this precious little boy.
The man was calm and had kind eyes
that danced with love and joy.

This gentle man knelt down beside
this lost and lonely child.
He told him stories of the past
which caused this child to smile.

This man had traveled many miles
and did not have a home.
His mission was to save this child
so he'd no longer roam.
