The Loss of a Child

by Kristine Stanton © 2023

I pray your precious little one
rests in the arms of God
where they will come to know His peace
and trod where angels trod.

"Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst.
The sun will not beat down on them, nor any scorching heat.
For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd;
he will lead them to springs of living water.
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes," (Revelation 7:16-17, NIV).

O, the loss of a child
is truly immense—
your heart becomes numb—
a heartfelt defense.

With eyes ever tearful
and grief tugging hard
at the strings of your heart—
your heart becomes scarred.

O, there'll n'er be a day
that passes away
that your heart will forget
your loss on that day.

So, I come to you now
with grief in my heart
for the one you have lost—
your precious sweetheart.

How I wish there were words
that I could impart
that would lessen the loss
you feel in your heart.
