Broken Things

by Dave Mudford © 2021

Many things in life become quite broken
damaged by pain and disappointment
our inner-self hidden and not spoken
wounded by shame; lost in our confinement.

Broken things, is how we're defined
at least deep down within our shallow minds
crippled by the perceptions that bind
listening to the lies, that always reminds.

Afraid of the broken parts of me
forgetting they're accepted by my Saviour
hiding in the sorrow to which we flee
we miss grace's beauty in all its grandeur.

Jesus wants to heal our broken souls
but we're too busy in our own condemnation
distracted by our unrealistic goals
determined; we inflict our own frustration.

Broken and ready to receive His love
open and honest in our reflections
embracing mercy, we will rise above
disillusionment caused by our deflections.

The broken mess that we hand over
is molded into beauty beyond compare,
allowing our weakness to spill-over,
will only help others in their own despair.
