When I Lean Upon Myself

by Kristine Stanton © 2017

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight."
(Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV).

When I lean upon myself—
my own understanding,
I don't acknowledge Yahweh
and become demanding.

I then walk an unsure path
that I designed for me,
and find I travel blindly
to places, aimlessly.

I end up going nowhere—
the fault is all my own.
I'm faced with consequences
for seeds that I have sown.
