New Horizons

by Mark Spencer © 2023

Deep within the mind, comprehension wakes,
I rip away life's enigmatic veil.
Cast to the ground, the conscience of a rake,
It settles in the annals of my tale.

By way of unwise paths, hope is revived,
Enlightened eyes have soothed my muddled soul.
Reflection has confirmed that I survived,
'Twixt death and resurrection's endless role.

boundless potential, paves the way ahead,
Though peril still exists, in veiled disguise.
With vigilance, I scan the paths I tread,
Down one of these, lay the eternal prize.

We are akin to children playing games,
Enthralled by thoughts of victory and loss.
We seek the mother load to stake our claims,
To cover tattered souls with wealthy gloss.

Yet I am just a stone cast in the sea,
I skip across the water to my grave.
But while I leap my spirit will be free,
From infamy that once made me its slave.

And though I doubt mankind will understand,
Its people still believe the world is round.
But truth has never been at their command.
For when it speaks they cannot hear the sound.

For I was once a wolf within the fold,
Compelled by hunger's empty aching howl!
And like a wraith, amongst the flock I strolled,
They neither saw my teeth, nor heard my growl!

But with divine forgiveness I'm redeemed,
The aching in my spirit now is gone.
Salvation has renewed the dream I dreamed,
And to a new horizon I am drawn.
