Boxing Day Blues

by Dave Mudford © 2023

Christmas cheer all left behind
for another year,
merry just a memory
boxes now are clear.

Glitter of distraction settles
leaving hope unknown,
boxing day blues weighing heavy
doubt has only grown.

So, I try to fill my boxes
with effort and disdain,
connection is what I long for
but all I feel is pain.

Honest reflection finds me empty
with no one left to blame,
alone; all I fill my boxes with
is heartache, guilt and shame…

Missing the reason for the season
affects more than Christmas day,
time for us all to embrace His grace
to fill all that we survey.

So let the Father fill your boxes
with love and joy and peace,
transforming melodies to beauty
your blues you now release.
