'Twas Dawns Early Light...

by Kristine Stanton © 2023

'Twas dawns early light
when terror attacked.
Some were still sleeping
while homes were ransacked.

Bodies left lifeless—
abandoned and burned.
Evil assassins—
a dreaded concern.

Fear running rampant—
destruction—despair.
Many are grieving—
there's too much to bear.

Many lain hidden
while screaming inside,
praying for safety
while gunmen preside.

Some have been hunted
and shot down on sight.
All have been threatened
too many days and nights…

"When will this stop?
When will they go home?
Why so much hatred?
Just leave us alone!"
